Portland Family Law Attorney Jill E. Brittle Celebrates 20 Years in Practice, Champions Collaborative Divorce and Gender Parity
Portland, OR – 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of Jill E. Brittle’s legal career, coinciding with the milestone of Oregon Super Lawyers Magazine. Featured in the recent article “It Was 20 Years Ago Today…”, Brittle reflects on two decades of transformation in family law—highlighting her passion for problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and innovation in collaborative dispute resolution.
Driven by storytelling and empathy
Inspired by legal thrillers and early work as a legal secretary during college, Brittle “felt an affinity” for law—particularly its people-centered challenges.
Pioneering collaborative divorce
Seeing the adversarial nature of traditional divorce proceedings and wanting to offer more to clients, Jill was trained in the Collaborative Divorce Process in 2010. She was an early member of the Portland Collaborative Divorce Group and co‑authored the “Collaborative Law” chapter in the Oregon State Bar’s 2019 ADR Handbook, underscoring her leadership in alternative dispute resolution.
Advocating for gender equality and shared parenting
Over the past two decades, she has championed equitable parenting time practices. “When I started, moms often received primary custody… courts are catching up,” Brittle notes, reflecting her advocacy for modern family structures.
Milestone appellate victory
In a notable case, Brittle and a former partner secured victories at the Court of Appeals and the Oregon Supreme Court, establishing that a family-owned business constituted a joint marital asset deserving equal division.
Community leadership & credentials
Jill earned Rising Stars recognition (2011–2014) and has been a Super Lawyer annually since 2015. She served on the Oregon Women Lawyers Foundation Board (2008–2015; elected again 2025‑present), including a term as President (2012–2013), and continues to mentor law students and serve as a court‑appointed advocate for children.
