About Estate Planning:
“Estate planning” involves securing a person's assets for the eventual distribution to heirs. For any responsible lawyer, this often involves more than just setting up a simple will. You also must create the right combination of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives, or other documents to ensure the intended distribution of your estate.
When it comes to arranging an estate, there is no one solution for everyone. We listen carefully to the needs of each client, then work hard to educate them about the pros and cons of their various options. If minimizing the inheritance tax is also a goal, we can work together to see what we can do to protect your resources to the fullest extent under the law. Even after an estate is arranged, it is important to have a lawyer managing or supervising on a regular basis; we will be available to meet your ongoing needs.
Prior to meeting with our attorneys, it is helpful for potential clients to review and complete our estate planning questionnaire. (click here to download PDF form)
Probate:
When a loved one passes away, that person’s estate often goes through the court process called “probate.” The purpose of probate is to distribute the person’s assets as outlined in the person’s Will. Our office assists clients by effectively administering the estate, advising the person’s personal representative, and ultimately overseeing the distribution of the person’s estate. We keep clients informed every step of the way and help the personal representative carry out the person’s wishes. If necessary, we also handle will contests or other litigation issues that may arise.
